A terrific book. ! I lived in South East Alaska for many yrs. and while there lived on an island, with my husband and one old man that lived in a cabin down the way. We were the islands only residents. We spent alot of time going back and forth to Ketchikan for supplies etc on our boat and many times in stormy weather but nothing like what you lived through. Your honesty was such a breath of fresh air! If you write more books about your life on your new boat and find you must exaggerate or make up little stories to make it interesting, STOP and write a "fairy tale "instead. Honesty is hard to come by these days, Thank you so much for sharing your life with us, good times and bad. What a great story! Neil Hawkesford could have come back from his adventurous voyage a totally broken man and stuck his head under a pillow. After his "Foolish Voyage" he nearly does that. The sea has a way of being brutally honest with your soul and is all to willing to kick your ass down the road! This is exactly the tale he tells. The decisions. The preparation. The training. And then the weather that changed his destiny. How would this have turned out if the weather had been different? We will never know but what we do know is that the weather gods were not nice to Neil for those nights and days he was tossed about as he pushed south across the Bay of Biscay bound for Spain. After decades of 'normal', Neil Hawkesford comes to the realization that deep deep inside there still burns an ember that is just looking to burn bright.
